12/08/2025 - Digital Filters and Morphological Detection Algorithms for Identification of PQRST Wave Complex from Raw Electrocardiogram
One of our Gen-Z research engineers, Tisa Anggraini, an alumna of the Electrical Engineering Program, Padang State Polytechnic, under the guidance of her seniors Hernowo Djati (Mechanical Engineering, ITB ’81) and Suhaili Yalin (Aerospace Engineering, ITB ’81), has successfully developed an algorithm for identifying human physiological signals—both physical and electrical—so they can be interpreted with higher sensitivity and accuracy in medical diagnosis processes.
Physiological data are obtained by attaching several sensors to specific points on the human body. Processing weak physiological data with very small amplitudes is not easy—signal amplification often also amplifies noise and false signals. However, with the AI-assisted digital filtering algorithm developed by Tisa, this issue can be effectively mitigated.
Tisa’s research is part of our ‘Human Health Pattern Acquisition’ research framework led by Hernowo Djati. Several outcomes from this research have resulted in digital medical device products, including various types of ICU Patient Monitors and ECGs, which are set to enter commercial production in the second quarter of next year.
This step is expected to contribute to the development of nationally produced digital medical devices, reducing dependence on imports. In 2024, Indonesia’s medical equipment import value reached IDR 71.88 trillion, a 52.4% increase from 2020’s IDR 47.13 trillion. The government has opened wide opportunities for competitive local medical device manufacturers—the Ministry of Health will restrict imports of equivalent products if local devices reach a minimum Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 40%. Our products have achieved TKDN levels exceeding 65%, as we design and manufacture our own processor motherboards, though the processor chips themselves are still imported.
Tisa’s research, under the title above, will be presented at the International Conference on Intelligent Unmanned Systems in Bali this month, attended by researchers from more than six countries.
